CULTIVERING
2015
People seem addicted to control and are getting better and better at controlling their environment. Cultivation, however, shows the unexpected limit of this control. Korevaar's artwork shows a parrot, a symbol of control, flying again after its death. The installation is powered by a solar panel, allowing nature to determine whether the bird flies. In this way, Korevaar returns control to nature,
highlighting the transience of human power. The artwork calls for reflection on the limits of our influence and the unpredictability of nature.
