On-eenig
2026
On-eenig hangs in the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwenkerk in Dordrecht and is part of the permanent collection of Dordrecht (NL). The artwork was created to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Synod of Dordrecht, which was held in 1618-1619 and commemorated in 2018-2019.

This kinetic installation of 33 mussels starts moving when you talk to it. The mussels symbolise the constant movement of mouths, which purify water. When those mouths stop moving, the water spoils. As long as we talk to each other, there is still hope.
On-eenig invites visitors to reflect. How can we continue to talk to each other, especially when there are major differences of opinion? And what kind of conversation do we want to have?

The title is a Dutch wordplay. It comes from oneenigheid, which means “disagreement,” and from on-enig (literally “not one” or “not alone”).

Artwork dimensions: 320x60cm
