Book series Beeldenstorm (paperback Dutch/English)

01-05-2023

This series offers an in-depth look at Korevaar's first seven works, in which his art serves as an outlet for his quest as a Christian and an artist. In these works, set in a world of universal themes, Korevaar shares his inner struggle with the Protestant church and the complex relationship he has established with it.

Born and raised in the Protestant church, Korevaar finds valuable guidance in the Bible. He experiences the church as a place of unconditional love, hope, forgiveness and compassion, but at the same time is confronted with the shadow sides of human nature within the church - fear, division, hatred and narrow-mindedness. This conflict is the basis for his artistic work, which between 2015 and 2020 translated his frustrations, doubts and emotions into seven impressive kinetic installations: Cultivation (2015), Fear (2015), Extremism (2016), Populism (2017), ... (2017), AS (2018) and ISEBEIKEN (2020).

The book series offers a glimpse into the process behind these works, with Korevaar exploring his personal struggles with themes of faith, society and self-identity. Each publication is a reflection of his work, enriched by contributions from seven inspiring thinkers and artists who share their views on the artworks. They include philosopher and theologian Gerko Tempelman, singer Stef Bos, former director Hendrik Driessen of Museum de Pont, singer Rikkert Zuiderveld, Judith Kadee conversationalist at Escher in het Paleis, PKN Scriba Ds. De Reuver and art historian and religion scholar Lieke Wijnia.

In addition to the texts, the book series contains beautiful photographs of the installations and invites reflection and conversation. The publications are not only a visual experience, but also an invitation to reflect together on the themes these works ignite.

For true fans of Korevaar's work, a specially designed, handmade box is available. Made of recycled plastic, the box refers to the mechanics underlying Korevaar's kinetic works. It is a symbol of his ongoing quest for sustainability and technology in his art.

Iconoclasm is not just a book series, but an invitation to experience his quest with the artist. It can help you see things you might not have seen before and offers room for deepening, both personally and socially.
