Winner Elisabeth of Thuringia Prize 2018: Salvation Army and Jelle Korevaar

19-11-2018

In 2018, the Salvation Army and artist Jelle Korevaar won the Elisabeth van Thüringen Incentive Prize for their innovative project combining art and care in a bold way. The project focused on strengthening the involvement of clients and local residents in art, and was a radical approach to art and welfare.

The Elisabeth van Thüringen Prize jury praised the project's innovative approach, which used art in an area where other means had previously been used. Focusing on themes of loneliness and encounters, the artwork was designed to enable spontaneous, playful interactions to create connection. The jury appreciated that the project not only invited participants to reflect, but also encouraged them to take personal action and have meaningful experiences.

By thinking outside the box and using art as a tool to address social issues, this project received the recognition it deserved. It is an example of how art can bring about powerful, social change.

In collaboration with Amsterdam UMC, Elspeth Diederix won the grand prize for their project Flowerfields. Studio Nick Verstand, in collaboration with Garage 2020, also received an incentive prize for their project to boldly combine art and care, while strongly involving clients.
