SYMPOSION, half a century of inspiration

14-06-2025

From 14 June to 28 September 2025, the Gorcums Museum will present a special exhibition focusing on Symposion '74. Sixteen artists participated in this art project in the public space of Gorinchem at the time. Many of their sculptures have since become iconic for the city.

To demonstrate the lasting influence of this art-historical moment, the museum invited sixteen contemporary artists – mostly young creators – to respond to the ideas and oeuvre of “The 16 of '74” with new work.

Jelle Korevaar is exhibiting his new work Posidonia Oceanica. Inspired by the sea grass that grows along the rocky coasts of the Mediterranean and moves across the ocean floor like a play of lines, his installation responds to the work of Kenneth Martin.

‘In this work, I am inspired by Kenneth Martin's fascination with chance and movement. His interplay of lines forms the basis for my kinetic translation, in which natural rhythms and mechanical systems come together.’ – Jelle Korevaar

Gorcums Museum, Grote Markt 17, Gorinchem.

Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  |  Sunday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
