Biennial 2021: Theme ‘Hope’
10-07-2021
From 10 July to 15 August 2021, the second Art in the Holy Triangle biennial took place in the monumental monastery buildings, gardens and churches of Oosterhout. This six-week biennial featured a diverse range of works by both established artists and young talent from home and abroad. The exhibition had the theme Hope and was a search for connection and new insights, while respecting the spiritual and meaningful environment of the monasteries.
The works, half of which were created especially for the biennial, were presented in the quiet, hushed monastery spaces and the surrounding landscape. The curators, Hendrik Driessen and Rebecca Nelemans, aimed to show artworks that bridge the history of monastic life with the modern world, focusing on the power of hope as a unifying element
.
One of the participating artists was Jelle Korevaar, who interpreted the theme of Hope in his own way with his kinetic artworks. The biennial offered a unique opportunity to experience art in an environment deeply rooted in spirituality and silence.
Other well-known artists who exhibited their work included Robert Zandvliet, Anish Kapoor, Bill Viola, and Berlinde de Bruyckere. The biennial offered a rich array of art forms, from sculptures to installations and video art.
