MOYA, Oosterhout

In Motion

02-02-2026

IN MOTION 16 January to 16 May 2026

MOYA is an art platform that blurs the boundaries between museum and gallery. At MOYA, everything revolves around connection – between art, artists, the public and the world around them.

With the works SCHOOL (2021), ISEBEIKEN (2019), AS (2018) and a number of kinetic mussels from the 33 series, Jelle Korevaar will be exhibiting at MOYA this spring.

Ik Stond Erbij En Ik Keek Ernaar (I Stood There and Watched) is on display for the first time since the Kunstroute Beeldenstorm in 2023. The work is the last piece in the Beeldenstorm series and is still relevant and poignant today, as it explores the tension between suffering and witnessing it.

In ISEBEIKEN, a crucifix is crushed by a metal chain. This action is filmed from seven different angles to show that everyone perceives suffering from their own perspective. As viewers, we can take different positions. The central question posed by the work is: How do I view suffering that I cannot change, and how do I allow myself to be influenced by the perspectives of others? Curator and researcher Lieke Wijnia wrote a reflective text to accompany this work, which can be read in the booklets that are part of the presentation.

For the artist, ISEBEIKEN marks both the low point and the conclusion of his personal Iconoclastic Movement. This work was followed by Hope (2020) and School (2021). The loose mussels at MOYA are Jelle Korevaars more recent work and herald a new phase. Whereas his earlier work focused on frustration – about ecclesiastical tensions, social exclusion and political powerlessness – he now consciously focuses on what gives hope.

The exhibition is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. More information can be found at: www.moya.museum
