From 19 April to 1 May 2019, Jelle Korevaar will exhibit his solo exhibition ISEBEIKEN at AK24, Utrecht. The exhibition, titled Ik Stand Er Bij En Ik Keek Er Naar, revolves around an impressive kinetic installation in which Christ figurines are tortured. This work seeks the encounter between art and religion during the Easter weekend.

The opening on Good Friday, 19 April, from 16:00 to 22:00, will be celebrated with drinks and live music by Roelof Flierman on an analogue synthesiser. This exhibition asks questions about suffering: How does the suffering we see daily through the media affect us?

Korevaar's installation focuses on the relationship between suffering and the viewer. While we try to avoid suffering, we often indirectly contribute to it, and sometimes even enjoy seeing it. The exhibition aims to make visitors aware of their role as spectators. What is expected of us when we are more often confronted with suffering? Can we do something about it, or does it hit us flat?

With ISEBEIKEN, Jelle Korevaar wants to present an open search for what it means to face suffering and what it does to us. Don't miss this unique opportunity to participate in a reflection on art, religion and the human experience.
